About Tyres 4 U Wirral – A 3-Generation Family Legacy
Tyres 4 U Wirral isn’t just a business; it’s a family tradition that spans over 60 years.
Our story began with a true local legend—our Grandad Ray. He started as a tyre fitter at just 16 years old, eventually running the well-known petrol station and garage opposite The Sportsman pub in Tranmere. From uncles and cousins to great-uncles, the tyre industry is simply in our DNA. We were raised in this world, learning that the secret to success isn’t just fitting tyres—it’s looking after people.
In 2012, we opened our own doors in Wallasey and haven’t looked back. As a brother and sister team, we combine decades of heritage with a modern approach to tyre safety. We are specialists in Tyres and Wheel Alignment, offering expert service both at our Kelvin Road workshop and through our mobile fitting vans. with the honest, transparent values of a local independent garage.

Meet the Team
Matthew Mearns – Director & Lead Technician
With over 20 years of hands-on experience, Matt is the Wirral’s “go-to” specialist for tyres and precision wheel alignment. As a hardworking dad of three, he understands that safety is the priority. Matt has built a reputation as a professional you can trust implicitly; if he gives you advice, it’s because he treats every car as if his own children were in the back.
Debbie Mearns – Operations & Community Outreach
The organiser of the family. Also, a busy mum of three, Debbie understands the need for fast, reliable service that fits around a hectic family schedule. Whether you need a mobile van sent to your home or an alignment slot at the garage, Debbie ensures the process is seamless. She also leads our community work, from charity climbs to local sponsorships.
Lesley Mearns – The Heart of the Business
Our Mum, Lesley, is always there behind the scenes with a helping hand. She ensures the “Mearns Family Promise” of honesty and reliability is felt in everything we do. Lesley bridges the gap between our Grandad Ray’s legacy in Tranmere and the modern specialist service we provide today, making sure every customer feels like a neighbour, not a number.
Dave & Junior – The Mearns Family Mascots
No family story is complete without Dave and Junior! While they stay at home during the workday, our two dogs are a huge part of our lives and a constant reminder of the loyalty and heart we bring to our business every day.
Tyres 4 U Wirral: Our Community, Our Commitment
At Tyres 4 U Wirral, we don’t just see ourselves as a business — we see ourselves as part of the community.
Based in Wallasey and serving the entire Wirral peninsula, we are a family-run company built on trust, reliability, and a genuine commitment to giving back. From the busy streets of Birkenhead to the coastal roads of West Kirby, our mission goes beyond tyres — we aim to support the people, charities, and local organisations that make the Wirral what it is.
Every job we complete helps us reinvest into the community we’re proud to call home.
Our Charity & Community Work
We actively support a range of charities, local events, and grassroots organisations across the Wirral.
The 2026 Snowdon Sunset Climb – Supporting Wirral Hospice
On 16th May 2026, Debbie Mearns will be taking on the Snowdon Sunset Walk to raise vital funds for Wirral Hospice St John’s.
Climbing the highest peak in Wales is a huge challenge — but it’s nothing compared to the strength shown every day by patients and families supported by the hospice.
This challenge is part of our ongoing commitment to helping fund their incredible care services.
Matt’s Liverpool Cathedral Abseil (2025)
In 2025, Matthew Mearns took fundraising to new heights — literally — by completing the Liverpool Cathedral Abseil, descending 150 feet to support Wirral Mencap.
Thanks to the generosity of our customers and the Wirral community, this event raised thousands of pounds for local people with learning disabilities.
It’s moments like this that define who we are — pushing ourselves outside our comfort zone to support causes that matter.
